Our School
The Shady Grove United Methodist Church Preschool is a ministry of Shady Grove United Methodist Church located in the West End of Henrico County/Short Pump area.
Our programs focus on the development of the whole child – social/emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual. Our approach is hands-on, supporting our belief that children “learn by doing”. We offer a curriculum that focuses on the process of learning, encouraging creativity, independence and a sense of self-worth. Our teachers are intentional in their teaching and embrace each child with care and support. We know that when loved and nourished, children will thrive! Our commitment to your children is to foster this love of learning and to leave us with a positive sense of self, independent, self-assured and ready for kindergarten.

Our Values
Shady Grove United Methodist Church Preschool is a ministry to the children and parents of the church and the surrounding community. We welcome children from all races, faiths, and nationalities. We wish to see each child develop to his/her full potential to grow intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially. The children and their families, as our partners, are extremely important to us and we strive to minister to all those who place their trust in us. This relationship is in keeping with Shady Grove’s mission to “Know and Grow in Christ".
It is our purpose to treat each child with respect, honesty, and love that will assist in the development of a healthy self-image. Emphasis is placed on the developmental level at which each child is functioning and not upon chronological age. Developmentally appropriate curriculum and materials enable the children to learn through the media of play, using all their senses. Simple rules and well-defined boundaries add to the child's feeling of security. Discipline is directed toward teaching acceptable behavior by positive reinforcement.
